Turnstyle (band)

Turnstyle are an indie rock band from Perth in Western Australia.
==Biography==

Turnstyle formed in January 1995 as a four-piece with Adem Kerimofski (aka Adem K), Paul Fanning, Colin Reeves and David Elieff.
Their first release was a self titled cassette released in September 1995. Elieff was asked to leave in November, leaving the band a three-piece for a time.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Turnstyle )〕 The next release was ''Itcheekneesonchee'', they initially pressed 100 copies of it but ended up having to press more due to the high sales and finally ended up making approximately 300-350 copies.〔
In November 1997 the band released their first EP, ''Seasides'', which sold nearly one thousand copies in Perth. Prior to the launch of the EP the band were joined by a fourth member, Todd Griffiths (known as DJ Grandmaster Casio). Turnstyle supported many international bands in Perth (even Neil Diamond), and in 1998 toured the country nationally with Jebediah and The Living End.
In May 1999, they released the single, "Spray Water on the Stereo", and also toured the Eastern states with Gerling and Trans Am. "Spray Water on the Stereo" made No. 16 on the ARIA singles charts and made it to No. 94 on Triple J's Hottest 100 in 1999.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Hottest 100: 1999 )〕 "I’m a Bus" received airplay on Triple J. Turnstyle's debut album ''Turnstyle Country'' was Hype magazine’s ‘album of the year’ in 1999 and reached the ARIA Top 50 (Top 10 in Perth).〔 ''Turnstyle Country'' was then Triple J DJs Merrick and Rosso's favourite record for 1999,〔 also getting the band a Triple J ' Album of the Week', live performances on Channel V and Triple J, and sold-out shows in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth. As a result the band picked up six West Australian Music Industry (WAMi) Awards.〔
In 2000 the band released a compilation album of early recordings (1996–2000) and B-sides, ''Geek Party'', which was followed by their second studio album, ''Turnstyle Corporation'' in October 2001.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Archived Australasian Releases: October 2001 )
They supported many local and international acts including Guided by Voices, Trans Am, They Might Be Giants, Yo La Tengo, Ben Lee, Stereolab, Bikini Kill, Regurgitator, Custard and Jebediah.
Turnstyle disbanded in 2002, with Adem K going on to perform as a solo performer and with his band The Community Chest. After a 8 years apart, the band reformed for a one off show on 6 March 2010 in Perth, Western Australia.
Turnstyle played again on 19 April 2013 at the Rosemount Hotel in North Perth. The reunion featured all members (including Griffiths) from the Turnstyle Country line-up. The band also played at the RTRFM fundraiser In The Pines on 21 April 2013. Griffiths was invited to rejoin the band after he met Kerimofski at the funeral of Turnstyle's booking agent in 2012.
In 2014 the band commenced recording sessions for an album of new material to be released in 2015.
